God, I have a question … led by David Talbot

We all have questions in life. Some of them are the really big ones. This is an opportunity to ask. Our group is intended as an engaging and participatory discussion, based on themes of interest of a theological or religious nature, and not necessarily text or book based. Participatory, inclusive, wide-ranging, and a bit of fun.

Here are some of the questions we asked God this past year:

  • “I suffer from compassion fatigue. Why? There are 613 commandments in the Torah. We can’t honor them all. Which one(s) would you choose and why?”

  • “The Bible is full of Prophets, and some even have their own ‘books’. The Talmud counts 53! They have guided our people for centuries but seem to have disappeared. Where are our prophets now? We sure can use them…”

  • “We are such a small part of humanity and been continually repressed and denied over the millennia; and yet our people have excelled and contributed in so many significant ways. Is there such as thing as “Jewish Exceptionalism?”

  • “We all know the story of Adam and Eve. What really happened in the Garden of Eden?”

  • “You’ve called us your ‘Chosen People’. Chosen exactly for what? And, how have we been doing?”

  • “What does the Divine expect of me, how aware of that am I and am I truly striving to fulfill that Divine expectation?”

We meet at TBT monthly from October to May on Sunday mornings at from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Our discussion will be led by David Talbot and supported by Rabbi Hesch Sommer, who will help keep us on track. Think of it as “practical theology”. We may not get specific answers… But we can ask!
